Check the VIN, registration, service history and ownership details. Run a PPSR check to see if there’s finance owing, if the vehicle has been reported stolen, or if it’s been written off.

Give the Car a Proper Once-Over
Don’t just kick the tyres and call it a day. Check the body in natural light. Different shades of paint, uneven gaps, overspray, dents and fresh-looking repairs can point to previous crash damage.
Look underneath too. Oil spots, coolant stains, corrosion or fresh-looking components can tell a different story.
Tyres are another giveaway. Weird or uneven wear can mean alignment, suspension or steering trouble. That little detail could turn into a rather expensive repair bill.

Turn the radio off. Listen. Clunks over bumps, grinding brakes, strange vibrations, sluggish gear changes or steering that pulls sideways shouldn’t be brushed off.
Inside, check everything. Air-con, windows, lights, warning signals, seats, locks and electronics. Also compare wear on the pedals, steering wheel and driver’s seat with the claimed kilometres.
